Dizengoff Fountain Memorial (Study)

Dizengoff Fountain Memorial (Study) is a 15x21cm oil on paper that captures a deeply emotional moment in Tel Aviv’s heart. This is the study for a larger work that reflects the transformation of Dizengoff Square’s iconic fountain into an impromptu memorial. After the war began, the people of Tel Aviv turned the fountain into a space for collective mourning—adding stickers, photos, yahrzeit candles, flowers, and even teddy bears for the children held hostage. It became a place where the pain of the city could be shared and seen. What struck me most was how this wasn’t organized by any group; it was entirely organic, born from the spirit of Tel Aviv’s people. I painted this study to capture not just the visual scene but the weight of emotion that lingers in the square, especially at sunset. The quiet resilience and collective grief of this space are profoundly moving.
